Top 50 IndieGame Kickstarter Campaigns of 2020 - 3rd Quarter

This quarter and the next, the number of Kickstarter campaigns popping up were dying down. We have 12 entries here, with almost all of them planned for release on the SWITCH. From the list, 7 currently have playable demos or prologues you can enjoy.

So, the first thing to address, Eiyuden Chronicle, a mammoth on the Kickstarter scene raised almost $5million. That is more than all the other 49 IndieGames in my list combined!

We also have many hand-drawn entries, I love hand-drawn 2D animations, especially when done beautifully.

JULY

Steamdolls: Order of Chaos

If you are going to make a Castlevania inspired game with an assassin in a world clouded by conspiracy... well it's a good job David Hayter is here to assist with his voice acting.

Lose yourself in a labyrinthine city full of secrets and madness!

Curse Of The Sea Rats

It's the high sea adventure for you in a Ratoidvania that is entirely animated by hand. And I do really love my 2D animations when done so beautifully.

Break the curse and return to your human self... Although why you would is beyond me, these character designs are kickass.

Whateverland

Set in a bizarrely beautiful hand-drawn world, where everyone gets what they truly deserve. Experience the beginning of the journey of Vincent, an unfortunate thief, who can either find a way out or stay trapped there forever.

Forgotten Fields

A narrative adventure set in an atmospheric, warm, coastal world, with a story about nostalgia, creativity and the passage of time.

Visit old friends, relive memories and experience bursts of inspiration as Sid travels back to his childhood home one last time before it's sold off.

Magin: The Rat Projects Stories

The comic book art style is brilliant and works really well with the dark setting. Just within the short demo, I played there was an assortment of characters. Even with one kind soul, the writing hit hard quick that I am in an unforgiving world that doesn't care about a lost child.

The world you must survive in is not a pretty one.

Saint Kotar

A psychological horror where we follow the frightening tale of Benedek Dohnany and Nikolay Kalyakin as they try to find the truth behind a macabre series of murders and strange phenomena, allegedly related to devil worship and witchcraft.

AUGUST

Beasts of Maravilla Island

Long time hobby of mine is taking photos within game worlds. If you ever read my Lost Ember review, you would see many of the shots I've taken.

So, if you give me a game where the goal is photography of beautiful environments and strange creatures, my answer is a resounding yes!

Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes

The gods smiled down on us and said: "yes, we shall get these two legendary writers from Suikoden to work together". It seems the past year or two, has been inundated by spiritual successors to Japanese franchises.

No surprise, this raised an impressive $4.6million, and have given us all something truly extraordinary to look forward to.

SEPTEMBER

The Kind Camomille

What could be more wholesome than a game designed around performing random acts of kindness and exploration?

Help the residents of the Island and enjoy the relaxing experience.

The calm, quiet environment is almost therapeutic.

Gladiator Guild Manager

These aren't the Gladiator arenas we are familiar with, at least not in the Roman sense. No, here you will find mad scientists, dragons, trolls, necromancers, pyromancers and... well... yes, simple archers and swordsman too.

Plan your strategies, and maybe you will have the greatest Guild of all the land.

One Lonely Outpost

Start your outpost with some potato seeds and an RV, seemed to work well for the last guy, Matt.

Soon more colonists will flock to your small patch of green, and you'll make friends, do quests and explore alien ruins, maybe even fall in love.

Let's explore a new world whilst building a community on a barren planet!

Dwerve

I had many doubts, Tower Defense is rarely a genre I enjoy, but you can put your worries at ease. The Top-Down RPG gameplay worked smoothly with the Tower Defense. I had so much fun coming up with different strategic placements to take down waves of enemies.

The writing is very engaging, and I can't wait for the release, to find out more!
